These
candle holders are my first use of
rainbow tweed and ember glow colorply.
This lamp is made of
Padauk which has a rich orange color and
a lot of figure.
Lamps are made of SantaFe colorply. It is one of my favorite and makes interesting patterns when turned.
Take a large section of
wood and cut away all that does not look
like a basket.

These lamps are made from colorply Eclipse and Scarlet Night.

My son needed a coffee
table, so I built this one from natural
colored poplar. I looked at miles of
lumber before I came up with this
combination. Some create with oil on
canvas, I use natural colored wood. I
call this creation art with legs.
Several have asked for
blue lamps. I selected a 1X6 of figured
poplar, glued up a blank and turned it
on my lathe. I like natural wood so it
hurt to apply a blue wash of acrylic
paint diluted with a lot of water. The
figure of the wood does show through the
color.
This is made from two pieces of zebrawood. The
vertical section was turned until the figure of a woman appeared. Then I knew it was finished.
This was
made from 2 1X12X12 inch flat zebrawood
pieces, The bases were made round then
put together with opposing patterns. The
vertical is four pieces
Tulip
wood seems to be hard to find. I glued
all my scraps together and came up with
this. The cream color with red figure
always makes an eye catching item.
I bought 4 of your bowl
squares in Padauk but told them not to
cut the wood into squares. I received a
2X8X32 inch plank. It was then cut into
4 pieces and glued up to form my turning
blank. Attached is the Hurricane lamp
that resulted.
I have
been working with some more of the
exotics.
Attached is a picture of
three purpleheart lamps. It is a
beautiful wood and takes a nice finish.
I took a photo of the
purple heart lamp to show the grain and
color. It is made from three pieces of
wood. The colors and grain are
different, they range from light purple
on the bottom, to a brownish tint in the
middle to the deep purple with close
grain on the top.
I Just
got a shipment of colorply and it is my
first project with Aztec. I had a
problem with what side to show. Attached
is a picture of one side of the three.
These were all made from one 2x12x12
block.
This is
the other side of the three aztec lamps.
I do not know which is nicer since I
like them both.
This bowl
was made from a flat 1x12x12 piece of
zebrawood using a ringmaster. Rings are
cut on an angle then glued together to
form the bowl. The pattern of the wood
can be matched or made random for
unusual effects. There is very little
waste using this method.
These two
bowls are made from the same blank. I
joined 6 3/4 inch thick, various widths,
24 inch long pieces of naturally colored
poplar. Using the ringmaster, I cut 6
rings then matched the pattern on one
bowl and did a random pattern on the
other. They measure 10.5 at the top and
are 6 inches high.
This vace is of Aztec
colorply. The material is easy to work
and you can get great combinations of
color patterns.

The
picture is of two lamps made using a
ringmaster and natural colored poplar.
They are very light since all sections
are hollow. The actual rings (92 in the
floor lamp) are 1/8 inch thick cut from
a 3/4 inch flat board. The floor lamp is
6 feet tall.
The three
lamps were made from one 2x12x12 block
of colorply.
